Throughout its long history, the Società Filologica Friulana (Friulian Philological Society) has built up a significant documentary heritage, which includes a collection of printed posters. Posters announce annual conferences, language courses, theatre performances, publishing initiatives and public events, while also documenting historical and cultural events that have taken place throughout the Friuli region. Viewed as a whole, the collection tells the story of the Society and, at the same time, offers a picture of regional public life throughout the twentieth century.
By their very nature, posters are ephemeral documents: intended for display and temporary viewing, they rarely survive in continuous series. An organised collection such as that of the Friulian Philological Society therefore has particular documentary value, providing valuable source material for the study not only of the history of cultural institutions, but also of graphic design, printing and forms of public communication.
Grana Fina's work involved a survey of the collection, the digitisation of the posters and their cataloguing, including the recording of printing details, dimensions, inscriptions and stamps. Today, all 351 posters in the collection can be accessed on Teche Friulane, the digital platform through which the Friulian Philological Society makes its cultural heritage accessible to the public.
The complete digitised collection is available at: Teche Friulane – Patrimonio Culturale - Manifesti. The project was promoted by the Friulian Philological Society, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Fondazione Friuli.
